They say language,
Was invented around a camp fire,
And when I say they,
I mean a drunk stranger I met one night.
He said that we had nothing else going on,
When all the humans gathered around the fire at night,
Tired out of our minds,
Lucky to have food to eat,
Grateful to be alive.
And then, maybe, we started pointing at things,
Random objects around us,
The cave,
Logs of wood,
The food we ate,
Each other..
And then,
Again,
Maybe,
Maybe we had things to say to each other,
Maybe we wanted more,
Maybe we had more to say than random grunts could allow,
Random points,
Random touch,
Random acts,
Maybe we had more to say than that..
Maybe we needed language because we had questions,
We had things to ask,
We wanted to get to know each other..
Maybe we wondered what we had in common with the stars, why our eyes twinkle like them when we are happy,
Why our laughter sometimes is brighter than the sun.
Why our embrace beats the camp fire in warmth.
Maybe it wasn't the warmth of the campfire that made us invent language,
Maybe it was the warmth of a hug.
The arms of a loved one,
Kindling our heart in embrace,
The shade of the earthy freckles on their chin,
The rainfall of their tears on our cheeks.
Maybe language was invented for that,
To communicate our heart
To communicate our hurt
Maybe with every sentence we decide if we love or not
Maybe our sentences can break hearts
Sometimes irregardless if we want to or not
Maybe Sometimes the best way to communicate is to not speak at all
Maybe somethings are understood
Just with a campfire
Or just with an embrace
Just by sitting with it
In warmth,
For the nights Sometimes can be cruel,
The outside world so dark
The storms they can be freezing
And the floods too harsh
So In rain, And in shine,
Maybe a whole new language can be invented
Between you and me,
Just from heart to heart
From hurt spews hurt ,
Only from fire we feel the heat,
So maybe we can finally speak,
If we choose to sit down,
And Just by sitting with it,
With someone,
To speak our hearts to heal.
